Domo Broadcast helps welcome home athletic heroes in Manchester
Whiteley, Hampshire, UK: DTC, Domo Broadcast helped Broadcast RF assist Sunset+Vine on behalf of the BBC and Channel 4 with a range of wireless transmitters and receivers to provide coverage of a welcome home for Team GB’s Summer Olympic and Paralympic heroes in Manchester on 17 October.
More than 150,000 people lined Manchester’s rain-swept streets to welcome home Britain’s most successful Olympic teams, ever.
Broadcast RF deployed domo’s SOLO4 wireless transmitters and ProRXD receivers to cover the entire length of the welcome home parade, in decidedly inclement weather.
Broadcast RF’s Lead Engineer and Project Manager for the parade, Nick Fuller, said “We were given short notice as to the details of the parade, which made planning for wireless camera coverage a challenge. However, traditional Mancunian hospitality enabled us to agree and secure roof-top receive positions for the Domo ProRXD receivers in record time which, coupled with the four SOLO 4 camera back transmitters, enabled us to provide seamless coverage from fixed and mobile locations throughout the parade.”
Using only two receive positions, the complete course was covered by Broadcast RFs wide area ground based system, which incorporate the Domo technology, providing seamless switching between sites with only 40ms delay in the entire system, which allowed for real time handovers between floats and studio.
Channel 4 OB Director for the Parade, David Tippett of Sunset+Vine, said, “I can’t believe how smoothly it went given the short time we had to plan it, how little information we had to go on, and of course the nasty weather.”
